Identify the Signs: Prevalence & Cost of Communication Disorders in the US

Updated: May 18, 2019

Happy MAY and Better Hearing and Speech Month #BHSM. This month, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (www.asha.org) launches a campaign to help bring awareness to speech, language, and hearing disorders in the US which I will be sharing with you the entire month as well. It will be filled with information about early identification/signs in infants, toddlers, school aged children, all the way through adults.

Wow! That sounds like a lot of information. Yes it is! But that is what is so amazing about this campaign! Not many people are familiar with the scope of what a speech-language-pathologist actually does. Normally I hear, "Oh so you help children say certain sounds?" when I tell people my profession. Yes we do that, but we do SO MUCH MORE! So I hope you will follow along this month, as we share research, information, and TIPS for you to better understand what an SLP (speech language pathologist) is and feel confident in knowing what to look for in your own child's development.

Today, I am sharing data collected about the prevalence and associated cost of Communication Disorders in the US from ASHA's Identify the Signs Campaign.
