ROI- Release of Information

ree

What Is an ROI and Why Is It Helpful?

One of my goals, as a pediatric speech-language pathologist, is to make sure all of the professionals supporting your child can work together as a team. One way we do this is through a Release of Information form, often called an ROI.

An ROI is a permission form that you, as the parent or guardian, may choose to sign. This legal document allows me to communicate and share documentation, such as progress reports or evaluations, with other professionals involved in your child’s care.

Why You Might Be Asked to Sign an ROI

You may be asked to sign an ROI so we can:

  • Coordinate with your child’s doctor. This helps your physician manage referrals for speech or occupational therapy and stay informed of progress every few months.

  • Communicate with your school-based SLP or support team. Sharing goals and strategies can ensure we are all working toward the same outcomes.

  • Collaborate with medical or therapeutic providers. This may include your child’s neurologist, ABA therapist, psychologist, or other specialists who are part of your child’s care team.

Is an ROI Required?

No, signing an ROI is completely optional. However, many families find it helpful because it allows providers to share important information, avoid duplication of services, and support your child in the most coordinated and effective way possible.

If you ever have questions about what will be shared or with whom, please ask! We are here to support your child and your family every step of the way.
